Why have a companion animal?

Recent research has found that people with development disabilties who have pets in the home show improved social skills and communicative abilities, as well as reduced depression and anxiety. Companion animals can also provide support in therapeutic and educational settings where symptoms might be hightened.

Why cats?

It's often been said that cats themselves are Autistic. While the accuracy of that statement is controversial, they do demonstrate some similar traits. For example, many cats are introverted, sensitive to sensory stimuli, and do not like changes to their environment. Given these similarities, as well as their calm and quiet demeanor, cats can be perfect companions for people with Autism.
